If you've ever wanted to get into oil painting, but didn't like the idea of laborious cleaning of brushes and palettes or working with toxic solvents, then this is a class that you'll really enjoy. The painting is done in one sitting, no no need to wait for layers to dry. I show you how to enjoy the wonderful medium of oils, by using your fingertips only (and a palette knife but only for about a minute;-) ) Painting with your fingertips is a wonderful experience, especially when using rich buttery oil paints. You get to feel the difference in consistency of paint between the different brands that you're using, and even between colours in the same brand. And if you slow down and enjoy the painting process, it becomes a beautiful, relaxing and enriching time. No brushes to clean No palette to clean (unless you use a glass one. A disposable palette is ideal for beginners.) Basic colour mixing, suitable for beginners Only 2 colours are compulsory, the rest are up to you and your imagination. (Unless you don't want to mix any paint, then you'll need to buy two greens as well as black for shadow.) So get your gloves on and join me in this class, and let's paint a gorgeous window box filled with happy flowers together;-)  And if you have any questions about the class, please feel free to ask. See you inside!

Vibrant colour, silky buttery texture to work with, no brushes, solvents or mediums - the perfect loose painting project utilising the beautiful qualities of rich oil paint. This is the perfect class for anyone wanting to explore the beauty of oil paints in a relaxed, fun and creative manner. This is the third course in the Fingerpainting in Oils series. In the first two courses, the focus was more on creating textures (smooth and rough) and keeping it simple with a few colours and relatively large shapes. In this third class, I show you how to use your fingers to push the paint around, get into small areas, how to add layers to create depth and interest to your painting while at the same time keeping it fun and flexible. As usual, this course is suitable to the complete beginner, and you can do the classes in the Fingerpainting in Oils series in any order. They are complete stand alone classes. If the idea of oil paint interests you, but you've been put off by the toxic solvents often used, the mediums, and the messy brush and palette clean up process afterwards, or if you simply wanted to use paints in a non-traditional way, then this is the class for you. I encourage you to ditch the brushes, grab your latex gloves and join us in an exploration of the wonderful medium of oil paint.

Start painting your own, original art in oil! THIS COURSE SIMPLIFIES THE COMPLEXITIES OF OIL PAINTING ALLEVIATING THE FEARS AND FRUSTRATIONS EXPERIENCED BY MANY BEGINNERS Oil paintings have a wonderful luminous quality about them, they last longer than other types of paintings (centuries actually!) , fetch higher prices than other media and add a certain richness to any space in which they hang! And, from the artist's perspective, contrary to what many may think, it is the most forgiving and workable of any paint media. Perhaps these, among other reasons, are why so many artists want to paint in oil. Make paintings of what you really want! So many painting classes actually only teach a specific step-by-step approach to painting one specific subject - think about the paint-and-sip approach or the weekend class at the craft store where you are taught how to paint a sunflower or a silhouette . Perhaps you've done something like that and even enjoyed it, but after you were done you had no idea how to paint anything else. This course is designed to equip you with the skills and know-how to create your very own, original painting and to begin your artistic journey painting many more! By the end of the course, you'll have painted your very own, original oil painting. You'll be learning how to gather and compose your own reference and how to use a simple, repeatable process to execute a painting from start to finish. Your skills as an artist will likely need to continually improve, something that is true for every artist, but knowing how to plan and execute paintings and how to handle the medium will no longer be a problem. What makes me qualified to teach you? My name is Mike and I've been oil painting since I was a child and had the privilege to go to private lessons once a week for years. However, later in life I realized my teacher had taught me a lot of "rules" that were nobody's rules but her own. Not having the opportunity to pursue an institutional education, I took it upon myself to learn everything I could about art and oil painting in particular. I endeavored to expose myself to anything artists I admired would teach, from John Singer Sergeant to Edgar Payne, Bouguereau to Loomis, Terpening to Christensen to name a mere few.  I took what I would learn and put it into practice on a daily basis and eventually boiled the essence of everything down to a simple, repeatable method that I began teaching to my own students. I took my color theory gained through my years in the graphics field and have developed a color mixing method that I will teach you.  With it, you will be able to mix any color you will ever need. I personally have not found any color I can't mix with it. I use my method for each and every oil painting no matter the subject of genre and my students do the same with great confidence and success! Here's what a couple of my students have to say: -"I used to get really frustrated trying to paint. I would run out of a color i mixed up and end up wasting a ton of paint and a ton of time trying to mix up the same color. I also painted all over the place a little here a little there and had a hard time pulling everything together and bringing the painting to a finished stage.  Mike Callahan changed all that for me.  His system is really straight forward and logical and I don't struggle any more!" Dennis, Reno NV -"Mike showed me how not to be afraid of oils.  I started with water color because I thought it was easier but was I mistaken! I'd mess up on my watercolor and there was no fixing it." Terry, Reno NV My Promise to You I'm a full time oil painter and instructor. I'll be here for you every step of the way. If you have any questions about the course content or anything related to this topic, you can always post a question in the course or send me a direct message. "I know the basics of painting, now please show me a painting from start to finish in detail." This was the request I received from a new student who had completed my course How to Add Power to Your Painting Instantly . I had the answer for her. Watch me paint a landscape in detail! She loved the lesson and I resolved to prepare a short course on this approach for my online students too. But I do have one favour to request . Please take this course slowly. I go into detail explaining the concept of light for artists. How to use pigment to create the illusion of light. I also spend a lot more time showing brushwork and little details here and there. This is not a quick fix in one hour. So if you do not like long lessons then break them up into ten minutes here and there. If you are a beginner please do my course Learn to Paint with Impact first as the foundation there will help you gain the most from this course. And of course try the lesson out for yourself. Painting better requires honest hard work. There it is. What do you receive? I focus on a landscape painting from start to finish. In much more detail and a wider scope of learning. We are going beyond the basics here. You will benefit from learning: How color should be approached in a landscape painting. Not color theory, but color practice! How to use your colors and palette like a pro; What to follow in a photo reference and what to avoid; Making a strong start to your painting; Developing shapes and color; Make decisions about light and color and content that will help your painting. Know when to persist Know when to stop That is what makes an artist produce consistent work of higher quality. You can take this lesson and apply it regularly to your painting. After some time your painting will develop beyond hobby level. This is painting at a level where you can decorate your home and those of your own art fans . Who Am I? I'm Malcolm Dewey, a professional artist and writer. I paint contemporary impressionist style paintings of landscapes, figure studies and expressive portraits. I mostly paint in oils and watercolor. I have been painting for over twenty years and sell my paintings, host workshops and of course, teach online. Join me and learn the fine details of fine art landscape painting.

List price of $49.99 now $24.99 “This is an amazing course…This course has filled in all the gaps of knowledge that we know exist but don't know where or how to find the answers. This is THE foundational course we have all wanted and searched for.“ - Josh F. This is an extremely comprehensive 5-hour long online painting class with a focus on the construction of an oil painting and the process of layering paint rather than actual brushwork and design. To truly master oil painting, it’s important to have a strong foundation; to thoroughly understand your materials and their proper usage. You have to know how to build a sound substructure or base, and then apply the paints in such a way as to ensure decades of life for the painting. In this comprehensive course, students are taken step-by-step through topics such as supports, sizing, grounds, an imprimatura, the underdrawing, the underpainting, upper layers of paint, and varnish. Each layer is explained thoroughly and clearly, and then followed up with related demonstrations so that students can follow along. The goal is for: Students to come away with a clear understanding of oil painting materials and how to build a stable painting; To help those who felt intimidated by oil painting to feel that it’s approachable; Experienced painters who have gaps in their knowledge to gain a more thorough understanding. Includes over 40 student resources.
